<description>Roughly 242,200 people were employed as academic or artistic staff in primary employment at German institutions of higher education or university clinics at the end of 2016. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 1.2% on 2015. Compared with the previous year, the number of academic or artistic staff in secondary employment declined by 2.4% to 142,600.</description></item>

   <title>Tax paid on more cigarettes in the second quarter of 2017</title>

<description>As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the quantity of cigarettes on which tax was paid in Germany increased by 10.9% in the second quarter of 2017 compared with the same quarter a year earlier. The total value of tobacco products in terms of retail prices on which tax was paid in Germany in the second quarter of 2017 amounted to 6.6 billion euros. That was an increase of 0.7 billion euros or 11.1% from the corresponding period of the preceding year.</description></item>

<description>If we examine the number of divorces in relation to the duration of marriage, the development since 2008  shows continually that most divorces occur after six years of marriage. In 2016, the number of divorces after six years of marriage was a good 8,600, corresponding to 5.3% of all divorces in that year.</description></item>
