   <title>First six months of 2017: number of people dying in road traffic accidents up 6.2%</title>

According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was an increase of 90 people, or 6.2%, on the first half of 2016.    <title>Cereals account for more than 50% of organic farming</title>

<description>In 2016, the area cultivated with organic cereals was 243,000 hectares, which was more than half (51%) of the total arable area managed organically. Based on results of the farm structure survey, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the proportion of organic wheat production was the largest (37%; area: 90,500 hectares). Plants harvested green ranked second in organic farming (149,500 hectares), with legumes (for instance clover, lucerne) accounting for the largest part of the area (59%; 88,800 hectares). The 2016 farm structure survey for the first time collected detailed data on organic cropping and organic livestock breeding.</description></item>
