WIESBADEN – A total of 270,800 young people started participating in a qualifying programme of the transition sector in 2015 to improve their chances of getting an apprenticeship by acquiring basic vocational knowledge or by obtaining a secondary general or intermediate school certificate. On the basis of first provisional results from integrated reporting on education and training, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of new participants in transition sector programmes was up 7.2% compared with 2014.
In 2005 there had been 417,600 new participants in transition sector programmes. Their number went down continuously to 252,700 until 2014 to start rising again in 2015.
