WIESBADEN – At the end of 2015, a total of 975,000 people in Germany received standard benefits in accordance with the Act on Benefits for Asylum-Seekers (AsylbLG). This was a 169% increase compared with the previous year (363,000 people). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of recipients increased for the sixth time in a row since 2010 (130,000 people). In 2015, 67% of the recipients were males and 33% females. Almost 30% of those entitled to benefits were under the age of majority, approximately 70% were aged between 18 and 64 years and only around 1% were 65 or older.
