WIESBADEN – On the basis of provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a total of 37.3 million tonnes of waste were collected from households in 2015. This was a decline of 0.6% or 0.2 million tonnes compared with 2014. On average, roughly 454 kilograms of household waste were collected per inhabitant in 2015.
Separately collected waste accounted for the major part (59%) of the total waste generated. It amounted to 21.9 million tonnes or 267 kilograms per head of the population.
