Press release No. 023 of 19 January 2017

WIESBADEN – Approximately 38% of all enterprises in Germany with 10 or more persons employed had fast internet access in 2016. This refers to fixed broadband connections with a contractually agreed data transfer speed of at least 30 megabits per second (Mbps). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that Germany continued to rank in the middle range of Europe and was slightly above the average of all 28 EU Member States (34%).

Compared with the preceding year, the proportion of enterprises with fast internet access in Germany rose more significantly than the EU average. While the proportion in Germany increased by 7 percentage points (2015: 31%), it rose by 5 percentage points across the EU (2015: 29%).
