Press release No. 201 of 14 June 2017
WIESBADEN – In 2016, people who sought debt advice because of financial problems waited for an average of ten weeks for their first counselling appointment. Despite this average waiting period, in 63% of all cases debt counselling started within the first three weeks after the overindebted person had contacted a debt advice centre. These are first results of the 2016 overindebtedness statistics published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) to coincide with the Debt Counselling Awareness Week from 19 to 23 June 2017.
One in ten debtors had to wait for more than 20 weeks before debt counselling started.
