WIESBADEN – On 1 March 2017, nearly 763,000 children under three years were cared for in day care centres or by publicly funded child minders. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 41,300 children or 5.7% year on year. The increase was somewhat larger than in the preceding year (2016: +26,000 or +3.7%).
