Press Continued strong growth in real earnings in 2nd quarter of 2017

WIESBADEN – According to the results of the quarterly earnings survey, the index of real earnings in Germany rose by 1.2% in the second quarter of 2017 year on year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the increase in nominal earnings was 2.9%. The consumer price index was up by 1.7% in the same period. 

The clear rise of real earnings was due to above-average increases in the employees' earnings. The 2.9% increase in nominal earnings was half a percentage point higher than the average for the last 20 quarters.
