WIESBADEN – According to provisional data, 725,100 children started school in Germany at the beginning of the current school year 2017/2018. This was an increase of 0.6% compared with the preceding year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of school beginners was up on a year earlier in all Länder except Baden-Württemberg (–0.8%). The largest percentage increases were recorded in Thüringen (+2.5%) and Sachsen-Anhalt (+2.2%).
