WIESBADEN – On the basis of provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a total of 38.1 million tonnes of waste were collected from households in 2016. This was an increase of 0.7 million tonnes or 7 kilograms per head of the population compared with 2015. Biowaste accounted for the largest share of that increase at 0.5 million tonnes, or just under 6 kilograms per inhabitant. On average, roughly 462 kilograms of household waste were produced per inhabitant in 2016.
