AROPE rate (At Risk of Poverty or social Exclusion) and its sub-indicators by sex and age

1: In the EU-SILC, people are at risk of poverty or social exclusion (AROPE) according to the EU definition if one or more of the follo­wing three criteria are met: "at risk of poverty", "severe material and social deprivation", "household with very low work intensity".
2: With effect from reference year 2020, there are two types of results: first results and final results. The results shown are final results.
3: Age at 31 December of the previous year.
4: A person is considered to be at risk of poverty according to the EU definition if he or she has less than 60% of the average income (median) of the national population at their disposal.
5: In the year of the survey. At least seven of 13 deprivation criteria are met according to respondents’ self-assessments. People under the age of 16 are only considered as severely materially and socially deprived persons if the seven or more deprivation criteria applying include at least three household-related criteria. Percentage share relating to persons in households for which the respective information is available.
6: Relating to the year before the survey and to the labour force participation of persons aged 18 to 64 years (excluding students aged 18 to 24 years and retired persons, according to self-assessments or based on retirement pensions paid, and excluding persons aged 60 to 64 years who are inactive and live in households with retirement pensions as main income). Labour force participation of the household is less than 20% of the maximum labour force participation possible. The percentages refer to persons aged 0 to 64 years.
