In June 2016 the British electorate voted in favour of leaving the EU in a referendum. On the 29th March 2017 the British government will now invoke article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and officially apply for EU withdrawal. This marks the beginning of a two-year period for negotiations with the EU. The United Kingdom's EU membership is now set to end by March 2019.
The job vacancy rate in the euro area (EA-19) was 1.7% in the fourth quarter of 2016, up from 1.6% recorded in both the previous quarter and the fourth quarter of 2015, according to figures published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
