Press Real earnings up 1.8% in 2016

WIESBADEN – According to final results of the quarterly survey of earnings, the index of real earnings in Germany rose by 1.8% in 2016 compared with a year earlier. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this confirms the provisional result released on 6 February 2017. 2016 was the third year in a row with a strong increase in the index of real earnings. The consumer price index was up by 0.5% in the same period. Nominal earnings grew by 2.3%. 

As in the preceding year, above-average increases in nominal earnings were recorded in 2016 in particular for employees with below-average earnings.
