The US are the most important trading partners of the European Union: in 2024, the EU and the US traded goods worth €865 bn (imports and exports). This represents 17% of all EU trade in goods. Compared to 2014, the proportion of trade with the US has increased from 13% to 17%, whereas China’s share of EU trade has increased from 12% to 15%. Other major trading partners of the EU-27 in 2024 were the United Kingdom (10%), Switzerland (7%) and Turkey (4%).

Analysing the import and export flows separately, the two largest trading partners show differences: in 2024, China was the most important EU import trade partner (21%), followed by the US (14%). On the other hand, the US was the most common destination for goods exported from the EU (21%), with the United Kingdom ranked second (13%) and China ranked third (8%).
