WIESBADEN – After slight increases, the meat production of German commercial slaughterhouses recorded a decline in 2017. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, compared with 2016, meat production decreased by 2.0% (–167,000 tonnes) to a total of 8.11 million tonnes. This amount was clearly below the total quantity of meat produced commercially in the preceding year (8.28 million tonnes).
