9 March 2026 Truck toll mileage index in February 2026: +0.7% on the previous month

The mileage covered by trucks with four or more axles, which are subject to toll charges, on German motorways increased by 0.7% in February 2026 compared with January 2026, after calendar and seasonal adjustment. The Federal Logistics and Mobility Office (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also report that, on a calendar adjusted basis, the truck toll mileage index was up 1.5% compared with February 2025.

Revision of the industrial production index with regard to automotive production

When the provisional result for the industrial production index was released for reference month May 2022 on 7 July 2022, a change of method took effect in the calculation of the production index for the "Manufacture of motor vehicles". The reason is that the production of motor vehicles powered wholly or partly by electricity has become much more important in Germany and could not be adequately represented with the statistical calculation method used for that industry.

Truck toll mileage index for Länder: regional mileage and industrial activity

The truck toll mileage index measures the mileage covered by trucks with four or more axles, which are subject to toll charges, on German motorways. As of reference month October, truck toll mileage indices for the Länder have also been available. From now on, the website of the Federal Statistical Office will show the Land indices every month at the same time as the truck toll mileage index for Germany.

Implementing the EU enterprise concept in structural business statistics from reference year 2018

Results concerning enterprises in structural business statistics are based on the common EU enterprise definition - as specified by the EU Regulation on statistical units - for the first time for reference year 2018. In addition, results are still published for the unit of presentation that was used until reference year 2017. In the past, it was referred to as the enterprise though, in the sense of the EU Regulation on statistical units, it was a legal unit. The wording of publications has been adjusted accordingly: data on enterprises (until reference year 2017) will now be referred to as data on legal units.

Index of the stock of orders in manufacturing

The indices of the stock of orders measure the monthly development of unfilled orders in selected branches of manufacturing. To analyse domestic demand and export demand, a distinction is made between unfilled domestic orders and orders received from foreign customers. The results are available as a value index and a (price-adjusted) volume index, and in addition in calendar and/or seasonally adjusted versions.

Ranges of the stock of orders in manufacturing

The ranges of the stock of orders indicate for how many months local units, theoretically, are able to, or have to, produce goods until all orders on hand are filled - with turnover remaining constant and without any new orders being received. The results relate to selected economic branches in manufacturing.

Index of new orders in manufacturing

The indices of new orders measure the monthly development of the volume of new orders in selected branches of manufacturing. To analyse domestic and export demand, a distinction is made between new orders received from domestic customers and those received from foreign customers (by euro and non-euro area). The results are available as a value index and a (price-adjusted) volume index, and in addition in calendar and/or seasonally adjusted versions.

Production index for industry

The production indices for industry can be regarded as a calculation system used for the monthly updating of gross value added at constant prices that was measured in the economic branches in the base year.

Turnover index for manufacturing

The turnover indices measure the monthly development of turnover in industry (manufacturing, mining and quarrying). To analyse domestic and export demand, a distinction is made between turnover with customers in the domestic territory and turnover with foreign customers (by euro and non-euro area). The results are available as a value index and a (price-adjusted) volume index, and in addition in calendar and/or seasonally adjusted versions.

Experimental statistics

In the "EXSTAT – Experimental statistics section" we regularly publish new and innovative project results of the Federal Statistical Office. These are obtained by using new data sources and methods. Both the degree of maturity and quality of the results differ from those of official statistics, especially regarding harmonisation, coverage and methodology. Nonetheless these results of the statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder offer new and interesting ways of looking at various statistical topics.
