Press Health expenditure per day exceeds one-billion threshold

Press release No. 050 of 15 February 2018

WIESBADEN – Health expenditure in Germany exceeded the threshold of 1 billion euros per day for the first time in 2017. Compared with 2016, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) forecasts a 4.9% increase in health expenditure to 374.2 billion euros in 2017. From 2015 to 2016, an increase of 3.8% to 356.5 billion euros, or 4,330 euros per inhabitant, had been recorded. This was a share of 11.3% of the gross domestic product. The higher growth rate in 2017 is due to the third Act to Strengthen Long-Term Care that entered into force on 1 January 2017.

Basic data and long time series are available in tables "23611 Health expenditure" in the GENESIS-Online database.
