WIESBADEN – In 2017, 153,500 married couples divorced based on judicial decision in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that a smaller number was last recorded in 1992 (135,000). Compared with 2016, the number of divorces declined by nearly 9,000 or 5.5%. After German reunification, a stronger year-on-year percentage decline was only observed in 2005 (–5.6%).
