Press release No. 341 of 12 September 2018
WIESBADEN – The unemployment rate of all those aged 25 to 64 years in Germany (3.5%) was below the OECD average of 5.8% in 2017. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the unemployment rate of people with tertiary qualification (2.0%) was just half the OECD average of 4.1%. People with a medium qualification level in Germany were affected by unemployment only to a small extent, with an unemployment rate of 3.3%. The relevant OECD average was 6.1%. The unemployment rate was markedly higher for people with a low qualification level. Both in Germany (9.2%) and on an OECD average (10.4%), roughly a tenth of such lowly qualified people were unemployed in 2017.
