WIESBADEN – In 2016, the public water suppliers in Germany extracted approximately 5.2 billion cubic metres of water, of which just under 3.7 billion cubic metres were distributed to households and small businesses. 0.9 billion cubic metres were supplied to industrial and other users. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that most of the water extracted was ground water (61%). The proportion of ground water has remained very stable for 18 years: it was 65% in 1998 and 2004 and stood at 61% in 2013.
