Press release No. 168 of 2 May 2019
WIESBADEN – Renewable energy sources have been increasingly used in all 28 Member States of the European Union (EU) over the past 10 years. On average, renewable energy sources accounted for 17.5% of gross final energy consumption in the EU in 2017, up from 10.6% in 2007. This was an increase of roughly 7 percentage points. To coincide with the United Nations' SDG Global Festival of Action taking place in Bonn from 2 to 4 May, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the Northern European countries are pioneers in transforming the energy systems.
