WIESBADEN – In the first six months of 2019, German local courts recorded 9,604 business insolvencies. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of 3.7% compared with the 1st half of 2018
In the first six months of 2019, the largest number of business insolvencies was recorded in wholesale and retail trade (including repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles), which accounted for 1,653 cases (1st half of 2018: 1,739). Enterprises in the construction industry filed 1,586 requests for insolvency proceedings (1st half of 2018: 1,772). 1,143 requests for insolvency proceedings were recorded in accommodation and food services (1st half of 2018: 1,123) and 1,032 requests came from the sector of professional, scientific and technical services (1st half of 2018: 1,037).Basic data and long time series are available in tables Insolvencies (52411) in the GENESIS-Online database.
