Strong increase in construction expenditure by 19%

WIESBADEN – The municipalities and associations of municipalities (excluding city states) showed a total financial deficit of 0.3 billion euros in the first half of 2019. In the first six months of 2018 there had been a financial surplus of 0.8 billion euros. Drawing upon quarterly cash statistics, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the result is based on municipal core and extra budgets. A deficit of 0.9 billion euros was recorded for the core budgets in the first half of 2019, which exceeded the deficit shown for the first six months of 2018 by 0.8 billion euros. In the reference period, the extra budgets recorded a financial surplus of roughly 0.7 billion euros compared with 0.9 billion euros in the same period a year earlier.
