WIESBADEN – In school year 2018/2019, foreign teachers accounted for a small part (1.4%) of the total of roughly 686,000 full-time and part-time teachers at schools of general education in Germany. To coincide with World Teachers’ Day on 5 October 2019, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the proportion of foreign teachers is highest in Berlin (5.1%), followed by Hamburg (3.1%), Hessen (2.7%) and Brandenburg (2.5%). The lowest proportion was recorded in Sachsen-Anhalt (0.5%), followed by Thüringen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Niedersachsen and Rheinland-Pfalz (0.8% each).
