WIESBADEN – In the examination year 2018 (winter semester 2017/2018 and summer semester 2018), roughly 499,000 graduates obtained a higher education degree at German institutions of higher education. The number was down by 1% compared with the previous year (502,000), and this was the first decrease since 2001. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 40% of the degrees were awarded in the subject group of law, economics and social sciences. Engineering accounted for just over one in four degrees (26%).
