Press 2018: 9% more municipal sewage sludge incinerated than in 2017

74% of sewage sludge incinerated, 16% used in agriculture

WIESBADEN – In 2018, the quantity of incinerated sewage sludge from municipal waste water treatment plants in Germany increased by roughly 100,000 tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of approximately 9% on the previous year. Consequently, 74% of the disposed sewage sludge was incinerated.
