Press Average proceeds from electricity sales to households up 1.0% in 2018

Price ceiling for calculating concession fees: +11.4% on a year earlier

Press release No. 484 of 13 December 2019

WIESBADEN – In 2018, energy suppliers received an average of 17.22 cents per kilowatt hour for the electricity they sold to all final consumers (for instance businesses and households). According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the average proceeds increased by 5.8% compared with 2017. However, this marked increase was basically due to the fact that the survey methodology was modified as a result of the amended Energy Statistics Act. In accordance with the new methodology, network use charges invoiced to special contract customers were included in the calculation of the average proceeds for the first time for reference year 2018. Average proceeds from sales to household customers, which were not affected by the relevant change, amounted to 24.40 cents per kilowatt hour. This was an increase of 1.0% compared with 2017.
