WIESBADEN – In 2015, 10.3 million taxpayers in Germany stated donations totalling 5.6 billion euros in their tax returns. The actual number of donors was probably even higher as jointly assessed married couples and couples in a registered partnership are counted as one taxpayer. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that half of the taxpayers donated 120 euros or more. This is shown by calculations for the 2015 wage and income tax statistics, whose data are available only some three and a half years after the end of the tax assessment year.
