WIESBADEN – In 2019, roughly 421,000 pupils in Germany attained the qualification to enter a university or university of applied sciences. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 2.7% decrease in the number of persons qualified to enter higher education compared with a year earlier (-11,800). The number declined almost in parallel to the population development. As at 31 December 2018, the number of people in the relevant age group (17-20 years) had decreased by 2.1% on a year earlier.
