WIESBADEN – According to provisional results, roughly 10.9 million pupils are receiving education in schools of general education and vocational schools, and in schools for nurses, midwives, etc. in Germany in school year 2019/2020. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is a 0.3% decrease compared with school year 2018/2019. The decline in the number of female pupils (5.2 million) has been 0.2% and in that of male pupils (5.7 million) 0.4%. The number of pupils has thus declined in parallel to the population development. At the end of 2018, the number of people in the relevant age group (5 to under 20 years) was also 0.3% lower compared with a year earlier.
