Press release No. 185 of 27 May 2020
WIESBADEN – In 2016, nearly 22,900 of all persons registered as wage or income tax payers in Germany had an income of at least one million euros, which was an increase of just under 1,700 taxpayers compared with 2015. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the average income of that group was 2.7 million euros. The concentration of millionaires was highest in Hamburg. There 12 of 10,000 income tax payers subject to unlimited tax liability (1.2 per mill) had an annual income of more than one million. In Sachsen-Anhalt, however, this applied to no more than one of 10,000 taxpayers (0.1 per mill).
