WIESBADEN – In 2019, approximately 149,000 married couples divorced based on judicial decision in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of divorces rose by just under 1,000, or 0.6%, compared with 2018. This was the first slight increase in divorces since 2012. It was also the first time that figures on divorces of same-sex married couples were recorded. Roughly 100 same-sex marriages ended in divorce in 2019.
