Top holiday destinations of German tourists travelling by car in 2019: Italy, Austria and France

WIESBADEN - Against the background of the corona crisis, transport associations are expecting an increase in car tourism and a lot of holiday travellers on German roads and motorways. Where long-distance flights are not an option, the popularity of cars - which are a frequently used means of transport anyway - could further increase. And this all the more so as going on holiday by car is currently rather inexpensive for consumers. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the consumer prices of motor fuels were 20.7% lower in May 2020 compared with May 2019 as a result of the oil price slump in the world market, which has been observed since the beginning of the year. Such low prices were last recorded at the beginning of 2016.
