Press release No. 304 of 12 August 2020
WIESBADEN – A total of 513,300 people concluded a new apprenticeship contract in 2019. According to final results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was a decline of 8,600, or 1.6%, compared with the previous year. The temporary increase in new apprenticeship contracts recorded in the preceding two years came to a halt. The number of new contracts concluded by men amounted to 325,900 (-1.1% on 2018) and to 187,400 ( 2.5%) concluded by women. This means that the trend observed for more than 10 years continued: the number of women opting for vocational training in the dual system declined again. In 2019, 36.5% of all new apprenticeship contracts were concluded by women. In 2009, the proportion was 42.6%.
