WIESBADEN – Totalling roughly 25,100 reported cases, the number of abortions in Germany was 2.8% higher in the second quarter of 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this figure includes, to a very limited extent, data of the first quarter of 2020 that were reported with a delay. Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, not all medical practices and hospitals responsible for providing information had provided their data in due time. Considering this effect, the year-on-year increase in the number of abortions in the second quarter of 2020 was smaller by approximately 0.5 percentage points.
