Press release No. 405 of 14 October 2020

WIESBADEN – In 2019, inspections of 254,152 installations for handling water-hazardous substances, such as oil heating systems, petrol filling stations and biogas plants, showed that well over two thirds (171,433) were free of defects. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that nearly one in four installations (23%) had slight defects and almost one in ten (9.5%) had significant defects. Dangerous defects were found with 58, or 0.02%, of the installations inspected. Slight defects must have been remedied after six months at the latest. Significant and dangerous defects must be removed immediately. If there are dangerous defects, the installation will be shut down at once. It must not resume operation until a re-inspection confirms that the defects have been removed.
