WIESBADEN – Enterprises with 20 or more persons employed in the energy, water and waste management industry invested 21.7 billion euros in tangible fixed assets (for instance, machinery, land with buildings, tools) in 2019. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an 18.6% increase compared with 2018. Investments increased for the third year in a row (2017: +5.3% and 2018: +16.8%). Turnover in 2019 amounted to 645.4 billion euros, which was an increase of 4.6% on 2018. In the same period, the number of persons employed was up 1.9% to roughly 484,200.
