WIESBADEN – In 2019, the youth welfare offices in Germany recorded roughly 55,500 cases of child endangerment, which for the second time in a row was 10% more cases than in the previous year. A new evaluation of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows that several types of endangerment at the same time were recorded for one in five cases of child endangerment (20%). In 2019, this applied to roughly 11,200 children and young people. The four types of endangerment comprise psychological abuse, physical abuse, neglect and sexual violence.
