WIESBADEN – According to provisional calculations, public budgets and the private sector spent a total of 325.6 billion euros on education, science and research in Germany in 2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 13.8 billion euros, or 4.4%, compared with the previous year. Expenditures accounted for 9.4% of the gross domestic product (2018: 9.3%).
