WIESBADEN – In December 2020, just under 1.1 million people received basic security benefits in old age and in cases of reduced earning capacity in accordance with the German Social Code, Book XII (SGB XII). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of nearly 14,000, or 1.3%, on December 2019. Adults who are permanently unfit for work or who have reached the age limit defined in Section 41 (2) of the Social Code, Book XII, and whose income and assets do not suffice to cover their living expenses are entitled to these benefits.
