WIESBADEN – A total of 1,533 scientists completed their post-doctoral lecturing qualifications (habilitations) at universities in Germany in 2020. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the total of habilitations rose by 1% compared with the previous year. While the number of habilitations by men was down by 4% to 995 year on year, that of women was up by 11% to 538. Habilitations by women accounted for 35% of all post-doctoral lecturing qualifications obtained in 2020. This was an increase of three percentage points compared with a year earlier. In 2010, this proportion was 25%.
