New occupational profile to make care work more attractive

WIESBADEN – After a new vocational training occupation was introduced at the beginning of 2020, apprentices in Germany can become generalist nurses entitled to work in geriatric, paediatric and nursing care. First numbers of apprentices are available now. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), a total of 53,610 women and men were in training for this new occupation at the end of 2020, which was introduced, among others, to make care work more attractive and address the shortage of skilled labour in this field.
