WIESBADEN – According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the real (price-adjusted) turnover of all retail enterprises in Germany was 4.2% higher and the nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 4.6% higher, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, in June 2021 than in May 2021. This development is probably due to the continuing decline of the coronavirus incidence in all of Germany and, consequently, the easing of restrictions provided for by the federal emergency brake that was applicable until 30 June 2021.
Crisis Monitor enables comparison between corona crisis and financial and economic crisis
Retail turnover also forms part of the “Crisis Monitor“ (www.destatis.de/krisenmonitor), by means of which the Federal Statistical Office compares the development of major short-term indicators in the corona crisis and the financial and economic crisis of 2008/2009. The Crises monitor complements the Corona statistics webpage (www.destatis.de/corona), which provides statistical information on the economic and social consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
