WIESBADEN – According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the real (price-adjusted) turnover of the retail enterprises in Germany was 5.1% lower in July 2021 than in June 2021, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis. Due to significant price increases, the nominal decline (not price-adjusted) was only 4.5%. When comparing the month-on-month figures it is important to note that June 2021 was a high-sales month (calendar and seasonally adjusted, in real terms: +4.5% on May 2021) because of the then declining coronavirus incidence in all of Germany and the lifting of the 'federal emergency brake'.
Crisis Monitor enables comparison between corona crisis and financial and economic crisis
Retail turnover also forms part of the “Crisis Monitor“ (www.destatis.de/krisenmonitor), by means of which the Federal Statistical Office compares the development of major short-term indicators in the corona crisis and the financial and economic crisis of 2008/2009. The "Crisis monitor" complements the Corona statistics webpage (www.destatis.de/corona), which provides statistical information on the economic and social consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
