WIESBADEN – Macaroni, penne or spaghetti – households’ food cupboards can no longer be imagined without pasta of any kind. Bad hard wheat harvests caused by climate change, however, might lead to bottlenecks and price rises. To coincide with World Pasta Day on 25 October 2021, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that roughly 254,000 tonnes of pasta to the value of 283.7 million euros were imported from January to August 2021. This was a decrease of 7.3% in volume terms compared with the same period of the preceding year. Exports, too, declined by 7.3% in the same period. Germany exported roughly 40,400 tonnes of pasta worth 57.0 million euros from January to August 2021.
