WIESBADEN – The number of school beginners this year was the highest in Germany in 14 years. According to provisional results, 771,700 children started school at the beginning of the current school year 2021/2022. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase in the number of school beginners of 21,900, or 2.9%, compared with the previous year. The last time the number was higher was in the school year 2007/2008 (772,700).
