Press Online trade turnover continued to increase after reopening of shops

  • Turnover in retail trade in stores remained almost unchanged (-0.2%) in the same period

WIESBADEN – The boom in internet and mail order trade continued after shops reopened in the spring of 2021. Measured in real terms and after calendar and seasonal adjustment, turnover in this area was 8.8% higher from May to September this year than in the corresponding period of the previous year. At that time in 2020, many shops reopened only gradually after the first lockdown. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that online trade turnover increased by as much as 36.0% compared with the months from May to September 2019.
