WIESBADEN – The Covid-19 crisis led to sharp declines in turnover in some economic branches of the German economy in 2020. A special evaluation from the statistical business register shows that the travel and entertainment industries were hit particularly hard by the crisis. The turnover of travel agencies, tour operators and reservation service providers dropped sharply by 71.4% compared with 2019, in air transport it declined by 45.8% and for hotels and similar accommodation by 41.0%. In the field of creative, arts and entertainment activities, the turnover was down 39.4% from before the crisis. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the annual turnover of all economic branches declined by 3.8% in 2020 year on year.
