- Over 73 million air passengers used major commercial airports in Germany in 2021 – a decrease of 67.6% on the all-time high of 2019
- Freight volume handled reached record high of 5.3 million tonnes, rising by 17.5% on the previous year (+12.7% on 2019)
WIESBADEN – Approximately 73.6 million air passengers departed from, or arrived at, one of the 23 largest commercial airports in Germany in 2021. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a year-on-year increase of 27.3%. However, the number of passengers was still far below the figure of pre-crisis year 2019 (-67.6%). In 2019, an all-time high of 226.7 million air passengers was reached.
